Masters of the Sky

For me the best time of year has arrived...

The common swifts are returning.

Their arrival brings summer to me.

Little lifts me as much as this mysterious bird ♥︎

My heart jumps when I hear their sound.

Their speed is phenomanal.

It reminds me of a poem by Robert Frost:

The Master Speed

No speed of wind or water rushing by

But you have speed far greater.

You can climb back up a stream of radiance to the sky,

and back through history the stream of time.

And you were given this swiftness, not for haste

nor chiefly that you may go where you will,

but in the rush of everything to waste,

that you may have the power of standing still--

off any still or moving thing you say.

Two such as you with such a master speed

From one another once you agreed

that life is only life forevermore

together wing to wing and oar to oar.

Goodbye Beach

Thursday morning downtown...

Our last visit to the beach... a nice sand poem...

- Wat de diepste indruk maakt werd door water aangeraakt
door geen mens gestoord neemt de zee het laatste woord -

freely translated:
- What made the deepest impression was touched by water
not disturbed by anyone the sea has the final say -

RAAKT AAN JE WANG EN VEROVERT VOOR ALTIJD JE HART -

FLOWS THROUGH YOUR HANDS
TOUCHES YOUR CHEEK AND CAPTURES YOUR HEART FOREVER -

Moving to Malibu

some nights i think of it,
moving to malibu, just as i stretch,
like a cat stretches, to my full length,
as though i am easing into cold waters.
i imagine the blue of the sea;
the bright green leaves of the geranium
on the patio, the bright pink blooms,
the yellow sun and white sand,
in the distance, white triangles,
from the deck, wind chimes.
i will be as content and as happy
as balboa. i will have breakfast
at my wicker table and in my wicker chair,
with the cats watching. i will taste
salt on my lips after coffee.
my door will be open, when you come,
you will carry a loaf of bread,
a bunch of flowers, the sunset
is brilliant; we might as well be anywhere.

Toodeloo

to the loo in our house....

Almost 9 years ago I installed this "temporarily" badly painted shelf above the loo.
Time for some change. So I bought a new Botkyrka shelf at Ikea.

Perhaps not a major change but I think this looks better than before.

Wall+

On my wall there is this poem of Frank Eerhart.
My effort to translate the poem:

like an animal
looking for you
just for the scent
touching you softly
without something
wanting
just to be there

My walls

This photo was made by me and it was printed on linen.
This photo is made by Steven Greaves.
It's called "Fallen Angel".
A legionnaire from the French Foreign Legion's 2REP sits in an armored personnel
carrier en route to an operation near Badpash Kusa Kala, Afghanistan.

This is a print from the Mauermuseum in Berlin.
The original photo was made by Peter Leibing.
The soldier is Hans Conrad Schumann.
He was one of the first defectors, just before the Berlin wall was build.

Perhaps you think it's strange to have photo's of soldiers on your wall.
Besides the fact I love those photos it helps me to remember........
Freedom doesn't come naturally!

A limited-edition letterpress print by Emprint.
It's a Robert Frost poem and I bought this in her Etsy shop.
Next to it you can see a photo of my grandfather.
