My Office

After years of thinking about the colour...
I was finally inspired by Katrin to paint one wall in my office.

This colour is Down Pipe from Farrow and Ball.
I'm still getting used to this colour. Even though it isn't black,
it feels a bit like a black hole (zwart gat) when I'm behind the computer ;)
And as you can see I still need some skirting boards....

Wise?

I bought this little owl at a thrift shop for a friend of mine.
She has a weak spot for owls. I hope she likes it.
She can have it and in return I would like a comment on this post ;)

Shawl

I bought a new shawl. Not that I needed it!
That's what the kenderman asked me, smiling.
Besides it has my favourite colour it's weirdly shaped.
Something like the shoulder pads of a dragon slayer armour :-)

Mask

Although I bought this mask in a Fair Trade store a long time ago, I still like it.
It reminds me of a seventies painting I have been seeing in Sailmountain :-)

Slippers

It's time to put on my felt slippers and sit by the fire.
I'm such a lucky woman!

Have a nice weekend!

Deco

Here you can see a detail of our livingroom.
From left to right: Parentesi lamp by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù , our egg,
ceramics by Eva Gevaert, photo from a wooden pole on the beach taken by me,
our whale burp and Horizontals A-line by Pastoe.

I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Barn

A couple of years ago we built a new barn.

Originally there was this concrete shed with an asbestos roof.

Our new wooden barn is so much better!!!
It's no longer in the middle of the backgarden and it fits right in with the surroundings.
Especially now the colour of the wood (still only on the outside) is changing from brown into grey.

We have a loam wall.........

a fireplace (built with bricks from the Antwerp Zoo :-)

and recycled handmade tiles on the roof.

You could easily be mistaken and think our (new) barn has already been here for a long time :-)

Weathered wood

Last time we were on the beach I photographed some wooden beach poles.
I've always had a soft spot for old, worn, weathered and sun bleached wood.

Easter breakfast

Here is a detail of my Easter breakfast.
The felt hare keeps my egg warm.
You must be thinking I started the day with a Bloody Mary :-)

The second day was missing an egg!

Ceramic pots

These ceramic light blue pots with wooden lid were designed by Vincent Van Duysen.
After being on my wishlist for a long time I finally bought one and one year later a second one.
I think the matt finish of the glaze and the sandblasted wooden lid are stunning.

Cabinet

This is our old cabinet with some beach findings.
Originally it is an old shop counter display cabinet.
It was placed horizontally so that's why the glass has been scratched.
Now and then the content changes.
Right now you can see.........

Some dogfish (shark) eggs.

Some egg capsules from rays.
I remember finding these on the beach, being a lot bigger (almost twice as big) when they were still wet.
They are regularly found on the beach. Almost all ray species in the Noth Sea lay eggs, attaching them to stones, wrecks or seaweed. One can identify which ray species they belong to by the color and shape of the pouch and the length of the spines.

This incredible construction is a solitary wasp nest.
It was build in a bird's nestbox.

And some of my lovely houses ;-)

IHS

We were never able to read what was on this stone until today.
This morning the sun was still standing very low when I took this photo.
Importing the photo's into my laptop, I suddenly discovered "IHS"!
Searching the internet I found it's a Christogram.
A medieval-style IHS monogram meaning Iesus Hominum Salvator ("Jesus, Savior of men" in Latin).
Funny joke because we are both atheists.
But then again according to the internet IHS might also stand for the International Headache Society :-)

Insect tea towel

This insect tea towel was designed by Studio Job and produced in Textile Museum in Tilburg.
Available in black, grey, beige, bue, red, yellow and pink.
I've had some black ones for quite some time now but last week I discovered the grey one.
