Exhausting Heat Wave

In the middle of an exhausting heat wave it's obvious to visit the beach...
So we headed for the North Sea. To Zwin nature park again.

We saw lots of storks in the surrounding fields...

After a short but very warm walk we arrived at the foot of the hot sand dunes...
and we could take a breath of fresh air at the slightly cooler and quiet beach

Even now, during this heat wave, we had the beach almost to ourselves...

The Bomb

Initially we wanted to go to the sea yesterday...

but there was a combination of storm surge and spring tide!

So we managed to wait another day

 large parts of the dunes were swept away...

suddenly the kenderman spotted a rusty WWII explosive...

 and we saw a couple of them...

then I couldn't keep up with him any longer (big smile)

Day at the Beach

Every holiday we try to visit the North Sea...

 the kenderman spotted this protected and endangered sea holly

I found the second ray eggcase of the day

We started our day at the Belgian beach as usual.
Only this time we ended having dinner in a Dutch beach pavilion.

Beach Find

I was so trilled with this find!

I completely forgot to photograph it while it was still laying on the beach (smile)

In the past we found some small (fossil) vertebras,

but never such a big one like this (10,5 x 6,5 x 1,2 cm)

with an intervertebral disk on top.

It probably belonged to a fish, dolphin or seal...

Update: I found some similar examples of harbour porpoise

(in Dutch: bruinvis) vertebrae on the internet.
