Another gem on our windowsill...

Fabulous Fleischeri

Such an, almost perfect, successful "joint venture" with the kenderman!

A couple of months ago I bought some, early and beautiful flowering,
dwarf bulbs of Crocus fleischeri and the kenderman planted
them in terracotta (coloured plastic) pots (big smile)

Placed on an sunny outside windowsill you can provide

colder temperatures, perfect alpine circumstances and

you'll have a close-up view from the inside.

Arboretum Kalmthout

Yesterday we visited the plants day in the arboretum of Kalmthout.

The kenderman got some tickets from a colleague member of the fern association.

one large Epimedium...

Besides trees, (espaliered) fruit trees and shrubs...

a wide variety of (wild)flowers and (forgotten) vegetables seed...

and lots of bulbs for sale...

Explosion of Snake's Head

Yesterday we drew a new record... the highest temperature ever on Marth 30th

And all of a sudden there's an explosion of Fritillary in our back garden ☺︎

Each year I buy some flowering bubs for indoors.

When they wither they go outside and I'll plant them in the garden...

in a couple of months or so ☺︎

If you want to plant them out straight away, don't cut the green foliage!

After a decade of planting dark and white ones we have several pink crossings 

I haven't seen the red lilly beetle yet... but I'll be watching

The last couple of days we have been working in the garden.

We haven't had any snow yet but we do have some snowdrops.

When you watch closely you can see an early hoverfly or bee.

But I'll make an exception for this "Lemon Drops"!

Snake's Head Fritillary

 The Fritillarias in our backyard are in full bloom now.

Bumble bees are hovering all over the place. 

We have a crosssing between the purple Fritillaria meleagris and a pure white one.

Happy Easter II

 Today we passed Eindhoven so I asked the kenderman to go to the Narcissus drifts again.

At that time the sun was still shining and I was really hoping I could show you a better photo.

When I arrived, the sun was covered by an enormous cloud and two minutes later it was snowing again!

This morning I parked my car on my way to work. 

I should have had my camera with me yesterday.

The sun was shining then and these waves of Narcissus were glowing.

Catalogue

In our mailbox we received a new catalogue "Nieuwe Oogst" (New Harvest) for bulbs.

As real Dutchmen we have to buy some bulbs every year :-)

Searching for some bulbs is a nice little job for this weekend.

Cuckoo flower and fritillary (snake's head)
Pink coloured (sometimes almost white) very small flowers but very pretty I think.
Pretty in Pink.

Narcissus

 Narcissus "Lemon drops"

At first I thought these were really too tall.
Normally we only plant small bulbs with the ability to start running wild.
These are in bloom for the third year in a row and they're starting to grow on me  :-)

Camas Lily

Camassia  leichtlinii or Camas Lily (Blue Melody).

In Dutch it's called Indianenlelie or prairielelie.
Just wait until I show you the gorgeous flowers!
The plant thrives on wet soil.
