Old Mate

Nowadays I have 3 other cats to take care of...... but I often think of Sil.

Long Time No See

Although it has been almost 5 months now......... I miss Sil almost every day.

I know I should only be grateful for the time we had.

Missing

Everyday or night I think about Sil.

We still talk about him frequently.

We both miss him a lot.

Memories

Yesterday we burried Sil.

Lots of memories are all what's left now......

 and at least a couple of hundred photos :-)

Great Loss

Today we lost our beloved Sil.

This morning he was having extra difficulties with his balance.

Two hours later he was paralysed on his right hind-leg.

He also showed signs of anxiety because of this sudden handicap.

He wasn't able to keep his balance any longer.

We called the vet and around six o'clock Sil died peacefully at home.

We will miss him intensely. He was our furry friend for almost 20 years.

Hopefully he's strolling through the happy hunting-grounds right now!

The kenderman thought I should do "the best off 2012" post .

But my last blog (picture) post for this year will be our beloved Sil.

Affection

We love Sil to bits.

He and the kenderman are best friends.

I'm just his personal assistant.

Taking care of his drinks, food, warmth and his litter box ;-)

Despite his age, Sil is still checking his territory.

I think I found it!

You must think I'm losing it :-)

You probably know we're worried that Sil (our cat) won't survive another winter.

Not just because of his age but due to the winter cold.

We've gave him excess to the boiler room but he doesn't use it, we gave him a t-shirt but I don't like dressing up a cat so I surfed the internet again.

Then I found an electric pet mat!

This equipment is usualy used by vets, breeders and owners of bold or sick animals.

We ordered one and hopefully this will help Sil to stay warm when we are working.

When we are at home he's lying in front of the fire or lying on my (sometimes on the kenderman's) lap.

Sil's Shirt

Dressing up your pet is not something I like.

So don't do this at home!

Normally a cat or dog should be able to stay warm enough during the winter so they don't need clothing.
Short hair cats like Sphynx, Cornish Rex and Devon Rex and older cats (many cats loose, as they age, their inner thermostat and can't keep warm) can use some extra warmth.
 Our Sil was shivering again. We gave him excess to a warm place but he doesn't go there.

So I bought him a shirt before the cold weather hits us.

Choosing the right size was difficult but according to the size chart on the website Sil's right size was M.

This shirt was way too big :-)

It slided backwards immedeately during his walk.

Then the neck opening started to obstruct his walking so it really needed some alterations.

Time for me to thread a needle.

Now (photo 1) the shirt has a much more tight fit and he has a fin at his back and one at his tummy :-)

I'm still thinking of widening the wholes for his forelegs to create maximum freedom of movement.

When the design is right I can make him a custom-made soft fleece one for the worst winter cold.
