We All Need Our "Eigen Stekje"

The Dutch word for a cutting "stekje" has a second meaning in Dutch :

"eigen plek" or "thuis", translated your "own place" or "home" in English.

So "We All Need Our "Eigen Stekje" means "We All Need Our Own Place".

I really hope everyone of you has a save place right now!

Although I should have more time to be more productive, my life has slow down.

We spend so much more time in the garden and outside than we normally do.

I enjoy having more time to relax, reflect and spend more time with the kenderman & cats.

I prefer to be able to meet with family and friends, even colleagues (smile)...

but I'm so glad we're both lucky enough to be able to work from home!

The kenderman just loves to see me multiplying ferns (big smile)

Thrift Shopping

Every now and again I feel the urge to go thrift shopping.
When I came across this cabinet I just couldn't resist (smile).
The beautiful colour and the grain of the wood dominated the state.
Without even measuring, to make sure it would fit in the back of the car,
I found myself at the cashier when I started thinking again...

(My last bigger purchase at the thrift shop was a waste of money.
Initially it seemed a really good idea, the quality of the painting looked pro.
It turned out it was probably produced by a painting factory and therefore
it was an overpriced purchase. No way I could make a profit on this)

Thankfully the cabinet fitted in the back of my car, pffff (sigh of relief).
Then I started asking myself how the kenderman would respond.
The kenderman liked the cabinet despite the current state.
It's still in a bad state and craving for some TLC...
but it's already providing space to some kender treasures.

Vague Monday Morning

I can use a song like Match Bet from Squid to get me started (smile)

Prosperous

One of my air plants started to get red, then there appeared a purple bud...

Keep Calm

Playtime

The cats try to entertain themselves with the indoor plants.

We all desperately can use some playtime...

I'm so sorry for my absence!

My mother's condition, work, commuting time etc. is absorbing me.

Fern Love

We have searched for a specific fern for quite some time...

We found and ordered  Goniophlebium subauriculatum online at Farnwerk shop.

The plants shipped on Monday and arrived on Thursday at my neighbours house.

Checking the tracking number I discovered this on Saturday...

and my neighbours weren't at home.... gggrrrrrrr 

On Sunday morning I could pick up the plants, almost a whole week after being sent.

And we received, in almost perfect condition, two beautiful plants!

For us there's just one shortcoming...

the Farnwerk website is only available in the German language.

Thankfully they answered my mail in English perfectly. So no worries.

Hopefully their website will be available in English eventually!

Then we definitely will order again!!! (big smile)

Game of Thrones

I'm sorry for my absence at the blog. I've been busy starting a new job.

Sometimes we are witnessing and involved in a struggle for power...
at work or even at home. Male Mats (on the right) is so much bigger
and much more muscled than female Nim (on the left).

Regularly we just have to interfere to protect Nim.

A couple of months ago we bought this new piece of art by Faan Olgers.

 The artist used reclaimed wood for the tower that can be dismantled.
Because of the round base you need the drawer (on the right) to balance.

We saw this piece 5 years ago when we picked up a table at the sellers home.

We both really liked this piece but the asking price was way too much!

Five years later I came across the same piece again, for sale on the internet.

 After a bold proposition, we visited the seller in his new and much
smaller home and agreed on 1/3 of the original price (haha!)

It's somehow a symbolic piece.

For quite some time I've been battling and now I "tore down the tower" (big smile)

Too Big

Today we said goodbye to (sold) my desk because it was too "heavy" for this space.

Now it's back to basic.

This old table came from an outdated factory I once worked.

Almost 30 years ago. Yes, I started working at a really early age (smile)

Magnificent Monday

We started with a foggy morning followed by a lovely sunny afternoon...

Our Nepenthes really appreciates the extra humidity in the kitchen

 produced by the quooker tap and some kenderman cooking.

Planted

Don't worry, I planted the succulents as soon as they arrived.

But until now there was too little light to make indoor photos.

Our New Chairs

Often you can find Nim lying on one of the chairs at the dining table.

You can see her lying on the left black chair.

We bought some "new" vintage seafoam DSX Eames chairs.

I just love the seafoam colour! 

Indoor Tree Fern

This tree fern is too big for my office and it will be too big for the living soon.

Not the best choice for an indoor plant because Cyathea Lunalata

will grow really tall and it needs a big open space.

 This drawing hung in my parents' home for as long as I can remember.

I've always loved it. The rough slate and the realistic monochrome drawing itself.
Originally this slate tile lay on the roof of a church on one of the Wadden Islands.
Upcycling and selling the old tiles provided the necessary funds for a new roof.

Now it's the first thing that catches my eye when I enter my kitchen.
