Plant Nursery Time

We visited nursery Bastin with my parents-in-law, more than 25 years ago. 

Later we visited regularly, once or twice a year.

Due to covid it stopped and now, after 5 years, we returned.

Oh oh, three trays filled already...

While the kenderman was searching for plants, I had a stroll around the nursery...

and was almost immediately accompanied by a new friend...

Only after our 'fruitful' visit we read: 

 

"... wij hebben alles al" we don't need anything more, we have it all

We should have seen this text earlier! (smile)

Fern Love

We have searched for a specific fern for quite some time...

We found and ordered  Goniophlebium subauriculatum online at Farnwerk shop.

The plants shipped on Monday and arrived on Thursday at my neighbours house.

Checking the tracking number I discovered this on Saturday...

and my neighbours weren't at home.... gggrrrrrrr 

On Sunday morning I could pick up the plants, almost a whole week after being sent.

And we received, in almost perfect condition, two beautiful plants!

For us there's just one shortcoming...

the Farnwerk website is only available in the German language.

Thankfully they answered my mail in English perfectly. So no worries.

Hopefully their website will be available in English eventually!

Then we definitely will order again!!! (big smile)

Plant Hunt

We visited Bastin. One of our favourite nurseries. We found some Salix exigua!
We lost 2 big ones in a storm in 2010. Now we can replace them at last :)

Eureka

I wanted some new indoor plants but somehow I couldn't succeed. 

Then suddenly ..... eureka!.... I thought of some indoor tree ferns.

It didn't take much effort to convince the kenderman :)

So off we went to the Tropical Centre.

We bought a Dicksonia antarctica, a Cyathea lunulata

(aka Sphaeropteris lunulata, it's Fijian name: Balabala) and a Cyathea australis.

Bastin

What do we like to do in our vacation? We work in our garden and then.......

we're off to a nursery and buy more plants :-)

Yesterday the weather forecast predicted rain showers and thunder.

It seemed like an ideal day to do some shopping :-)

So we went to Bastin, a nursery specialised in Mediterranean plants.

This beautiful nursery is situated on a slope in the South of the Netherlands.

Today we will be busy planting!

Think outside the box

We have been doing some shopping today :-)

We went to one of our favourite nurseries Bastin.

Normally we go there at least twice a year.

Today we realised, seeing the size of the plants in their borders,

that we have never been there so early in the year.

We bought:

Sambucus nigra 'black lace' = Eva

Angelica sylvestris 'Vicar's mead'

Thymus serpyllum 'Pink Chintz'

Eryngium giganteum 'Silver Ghost' 

Pycanthemum pilosum

Porteranthus trifoliatus (Gillenia trifoliata)
