I just couldn't resist this, almost Japanese looking, plate and bowl..

New Belfast Sink

After almost 2 years, we finally replaced our damaged Belfast sink.

The damage, a big crack, was caused by a stupid fitter who

emptied our Quooker tank to be able to do some maintenance.

Seven liters of boiling water poured on a stone cold porcelain sink.

Followed by some cold water after the reservoir was completely empty.

The sink just couldn't handle the thermal shock and cracked...

So, after doing some research, I found and bought a similar new porcelain sink.
The kenderman and me installed the new Belfast sink today.

We managed to fit it eventually... with the help of some candle wax ☺︎

In Openhouse magazine the kenderman spotted some porcelain ducks and swallows.

Today we bought these at the brocante market in Tongeren :)

Cow

We have been dreaming about our own milk cow for a long time.

Yesterday we finally bought one. Although it's not the breed we had in mind ;)

Wise?

I bought this little owl at a thrift shop for a friend of mine.

 She has a weak spot for owls. I hope she likes it.
She can have it and in return I would like a comment on this post ;)

Thrift Store Find

During our vacation we visited several thrift stores.

One of my finds is this porcelain soup bowl from Lilien porzellan.

I love the material and the shape.

Rice Grain

I bought an old rice grain porcelain bowl from Arabia.

Lovely and not perfectly shaped.

It's on my kitchen shelf now.

Our Tap

About a week ago I was skyping with my brother.

I told him something he laughed about.

I'm a bit embarrassed to tell you............

but out kitchen tap is broken for almost 18 months now !

The strange thing is you get used to it.

Whether I am in need of cold or warm water, I just replace the porcelain handle :-)

In the seven years we have been living here, we have repaired this tap several times.

These taps are made in England and (besides not my cup of tea) they are incredibly expensive.

Even the spare parts.

Besides the fact we have this mechanical problem, we also have a boiler that's way too far away.

After 10 minutes of running water, the water will finally get hot!

So our current idea is to install a quooker.

This kind of tap can provide cooking hot water straight away.

We can throw away our old kettle and it can provide some tea water straight away
but it's rather expensive. To be continued...........

Shards

Our second porcelain house broke. 

I broke the first one the kenderman the second one.

In the Netherlands we have an expression and superstition: "Scherven brengen geluk".

Translated "Shards bring luck".

We can definitely use some luck for Sil!

Here is a peek in our PHE cabinet.

Raw Edges

This piece of porcelain is from Dutch designer Dik Scheepers.

It hides the ugly plastic plant pot pretty good.

Beach findings

 Here you can see some of our beachfindings.

 I was really lucky to find 4 fossil spine bones.

These porcelain plates are made by Piet Stockmans.

He is a famous Belgian ceramist.

I admire his work!

Houses

Two of my other houses.

Cabinet

 This is our old cabinet with some beach findings.

Originally it is an old shop counter display cabinet.

It was placed horizontally so that's why the glass has been scratched.

Now and then the content changes.

Right now you can see.........

Some dogfish (shark) eggs.

Some egg capsules from rays.

I remember finding these on the beach, being a lot bigger (almost twice as big) when they were still wet.

 They are regularly found on the beach. Almost all ray species in the Noth Sea lay eggs, attaching them to stones, wrecks or seaweed. One can identify which ray species they belong to by the color and shape of the pouch and the length of the spines.

 This incredible construction is a solitary wasp nest.

It was build in a bird's nestbox.
