Hard Labeur

Time to do some hard labeur...

When I took this photo Mobli had already eaten 3 mouses in just half an hour!

Work In Progress

The kerderman is scything our backyard again.
Recently I bought him another scythe at a thriftstore.
It's lighter, has a smaller blade, is easier to use, it's German and almost brand new.
The old one was designed to scythe the side of a ditch so it was ruining his back.
The kenderman really liked my present! haha!

Scyting

The kenderman has been scything again.
He has bought an old scythe a couple of years ago and this type of scythe is straight.
It should be a bit bended and preferably made from wood instead of metal.
So we have been searching for a different scythe but it's really difficult to track one.

Scythe

The Jackdaws (aka Corvus monedula, kauw in Dutch) are foraging......

The kenderman has been scything again.
After (most of) the work has been done,
(it's better for the wildlife and for the KM :-) not to mow all the grass at once)
we're now on our way to Hex, festival of rare plants, roses and kitchen gardens.

Cuckoo flower

The cuckoo flower (also known as meadow cress, lady's smock and Cardamine pratensis)
is blossoming!
It's always nice to see this small flower in our field again.
The flowers in our field are increasing every year.
Thanks to the way my kenderman mows our grass.
Just a few times a year using an old scythe.

The orange tip butterfly (Anthocharis cardamines), here sitting on a garlic mustard
plant (Alliaria petiolata), loves the cuckoo flower as well.
