No Admiral

During haying the kenderman spotted the White Admiral.
He was so enthusiastic about this rare butterfly, I completely trusted his suggestion for a blogpost!
I should have double-checked ;)
Now we now, THANKS to the Peelmormels, it's summer Araschnia levana.

Camera

I'm so chuffed with my new camera!
I've been using it for almost a month now.
It's about time to read the manual :)

Close Encounter

Since a week I've been feeding Mobli regularly......
On wednesday he lay down on our drive to sleep and he wasn't looking very good.
He's skinnier than he was before and his coat is yellowing.
While he was sleeping I sneeked up on him to feed him.
When I was about 1 metre away he woke up! I scared the hell out of him, so he ran.
He jumped over the gate and looked back at me. Quickly I raised the white bowl, put it on the ground,
turned my back at him and walked away. From inside the house I could watch him eating :)

Yesterday, while I was hanging some laundry outside, we saw him
entering our backyard so I went inside to get him some food.
When I came back the kenderman told me he had already left :(
I walked to the back of the garden, peeked around the wooded bank and there he was.
Once again I spooked him so he ran but after a couple of metres he looked back.
I showed him a white bowl, put it down and left straight away.
In no time he emptied the bowl.

I continued hanging the laundry and then, at a distance of a couple of metres,
Mobli started meowing at me...... probably asking for more food :)

Finally we sat down to have a drink and some tapas.
Mobli seemed to enjoy our company so he took a nap at a save distance.

Afterwards I gave him another white bowl with food.....

And provided him with some fresh rainwater.
Mobli stayed the whole afternoon and evening.
He is still cautious but no longer leaving as soon as we enter the garden.

Hopefully he'll learn to trust us so we can help him.
At an age of 10+ it will get harder for Mobli to survive the next winter.

Wise?

I bought this little owl at a thrift shop for a friend of mine.
She has a weak spot for owls. I hope she likes it.
She can have it and in return I would like a comment on this post ;)

Water

This is a photo I took from the water of the canal nearby.
I decided to have it printed (150 x 50 cm) and attached to an aluminium plate.
No frame needed. There's a small distance between the picture and the wall.
I like the result. You can see how it looked like before here and here.

As soon as I hung my photo there was some interest..... from our cats :)

Monument

Today this monument was revealed.
It's for my father-in-law who was an important figure in his community.
He died, way to early, in 2005. We still miss him very much!

Beautiful

Have a beautiful weekend!

Playful

Within just a couple of days our cats are playing together and sleeping near to each other!
This first week the kenderman and I switch turns to catsit :)
Today I'm here to clean the litter box, feed them a couple of times,
play with them, sweeping and mopping floors and take pictures of course.
Since we're not leaving for a fancy vacation (again) this summer, we've bought a new camera.
I'm hoping you can see the difference.

When Nim met Mats

It wasn't love at first sight........ that's for sure!

Our Mats comes from a place with 4 adult females, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Only a few weeks ago 4 half brothers and sisters left.
So he used to be living in a "herd" of Bengals.
Always someone to play or to sleep with him. Mats keeps crying out for Nim.
He has seen her and doesn't understand why she doesn't want to play with such a cool cat.
But he keeps his distance when she starts hissing and growling.

Nim is very polite as well. She only warns Mats when he comes too close.
Nim was the last kitten to leave the nest. Her brothers and sister left the nest 4 weeks earlier.
Just before she came to live with us, she lived alone with her mum who was really shy.
Then she came to live with us. No childeren and no other animals in the house.
Only two middle aged kenders :) She really adapted to us.

I can only hope they'll grow on each other :)

Playtime

Mats and I played for a while.
Nim still sleeps on the windowsill.

Showtime

Nim was hungry so I put some food in a bowl in the kitchen
and Mats started miaowing from under the couch in the living.
I gave Nim her food in the dooropening so Mats was able to see her.
That's when Mats showed himself. Nim spooked and ran away.
And Mats? He disappeared under the couch again.

New Cat in Town

May I introduce you to our new bengal cat Mats?
Today we could finally take him home but the whole experience is a bit overwhelming for him.
He prefers to stay under the couch. And Nim isn't fully aware of his presence.... yet.
Stay tuned for updates! :)
