The Bear

What do you think of our latest Ebay find?

It's probably Japanese although it was sold as a Schwarzwalder (German) carving.
I think this must be an Ainu bear from Hokkaido.
The bear is carrying a big skewered fish on a wooden branch.
The Ainu considered the bear the mythological hero that taught them to fish, hunt, weave and so on.

I was searching for a Ainu bear for a while because I think the quality of the Ainu carving is excellent!
Kitka triggered me. Kitka is one of my favourite blogs and they have an online shop called Mjölk.
Just like Juli and John, I love Scandinavian and Japanese design.

Our bear isn't marked, has no signs what so ever.
One minor detail is the awkward scent of the wood.
Hopefully this smell will dissappear eventually.

Mobli Again

Last friday and saterday, two days in a row, I saw Mobli again.
If you don't know who Mobli is, you can read about him here and here.

I was taking photos from the inside of the house but he heard me opening the window.

Then his attention was caught by something else.

But he wasn't at ease anymore.

And therefore he left again.
I hope he will back soon!

Hole Part I

Last week Sil (our cat) has been shivering a lot so I thought of a new DIY project.
In our house we have a small room for our boiler and during the day it's less cold then the rest of the house.
We decided to make a hole in the door.
The kenderman was responsible for the drilling, sowing and sanding. He did a great job.

Now we just need a little door for the hole :-)
To be continued........

I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Home Fernishing

Davallia fejeensis (aka Rabbit's foot fern, Good Luck plant)

We both love ferns.
At first only the kenderman was hooked but I'm getting under their spell as well ;-)
Most ferns are in our garden but we do have a couple of ferns inside the house.
I love the green colour and the natural feel they bring into our home.

The planter is from Ikea, called PS FEJÖ and it's also available in white.
When your plant gets quite big or it gets too heavy you can just roll it.
And it's watertight so no more leaking water on your (wooden) floors.
We used to have handmade glazed ceramic pots but those proofed not to be reliable.
You always have the risk of damp and mould underneath the pot.

Donkey Love

Yesterday I told you we would go cycling.
We saw some of our animal friends again.
Wherever you go in Belgium you will probably run into at least one donkey.
There were 8 donkeys in this field!
But just one of them was fotogenic :-)

Brunch

Finally, before the mouses and birds ate them, we had some raspberries from our garden.

I'm gonna climb onto my bike in a minute so I'll need all the power food I ate :-)

Goldie

Here is our Golden Oldie, always looking for a sunny spot.

He knows I'm photographing......my camera makes these irritating noises.
Although Sil is almost completely deaf, he still hears these piercing sounds.

And now he has had enough!

Rush

 Rosa Rush

Doesn't these flowers look stunning?
This plant had lots of lices in spring but we didn't act and just waited.
We definitely won't spray with chemicals, at the very most we will just use some water.
It started flowering in june and it will probably go on until october.

 My message for you:
don't rush and have a nice weekend!

Old Caterpillar

 old wooden joint

My back has been hurting for over a year now.
Generally the pain comes from the sacroiliac joint in my lower back.
Since a couple of weeks it became worse.
Sleeping and sitting was getting difficult and last week I wasn't even able to go to my work.

I feel like, my brother would say, "a really old caterpillar"
("een oude rups" in Dutch, "un ouw rups" in dialect).
Meaning "an old hag" but sounding much more friendly :-)
Suggesting the possibility of becoming a butterfly one day ;-)
I won't give up the hope I'll be able to fly someday ;-)

Arty

I wanted you to show another photo of our Ibo mask.
The previous photo was a bit out of focus.
But then again this one looks a bit arty-farty :-)

Pretty Pelargonium

I was never fond of geraniums or pelargoniums until I discovered the small ones.
This Pelargonium is a tender compact evergreen perennial with grey-green velvety leaves.
Loose clusters of dark maroon flowers from late spring and throughout summer.
I take cuttings every year  and I bring the plants inside the house to hibernate.
