Our Hunter

Despite the fact he can be a ruthless 'killer'... I just love Mobli.

About a week ago, sitting on the couch with Mats on my lap,

I heard some cat fighting and screaming sounds outside.

I instantly suspected this was Mobli so (poor Mats being

catapulted from my lap!) I ran outside and called his name.

Immediately he came running towards me and when I saw
he was reasonably okay, I started pursuing the intruder.

Close upon my heels Mobli followed although I was clapping my hands
loudly to scare the 'bad' cat. We did something similar in the past (smile).

At the end of the garden we stopped and side by side we stared into the darkness.

Mobli was panting due to danger and stress.

After a minute or two we went back to Mobli's den.
I inspected his wounds, gave him some cuddles and extra food.

We're such a great team, Mobli and me! ☆

Accomplice to Murder

Mobli caught another mouse...

But this time it was different. He didn't eat it straight away like he normally does.

This must be our bad human influence....  and it might have
anything to do with the fact he's so well fed by us.

  

He really wanted to play...

Such a beautiful but terrified mouse... 

Quickly I tried to think of a way to end the suffering...

Only when I started repeatedly complimenting Mobli

(that's what I do to motivate him to eat his kidney diet cat food),

he finally killed the mouse and started eating! (deep sigh)

Another Victim

Perhaps Mobli thinks I need a different diet... or I need to fatten up for winter

Nest

The kenderman found a beautiful harvest mouse nest in our garden.

Death

This dead mouse must be a victim from the feral cats. I'm so sorry it's a shrew!

Nest Boxes

Finally the dormouse nest boxes are placed in our garden.

One is attached to the trunk of our pollard Black Alder at the end of our mixed hedgerow.

The other one is hanging in front of our wooded bank. Raspberry as well as Blackberry are nearby.

Red Mouse

The kenderman caught this bank vole (rosse woelmuis) while we were working in our garden.

He told me to hurry and get my camera.

He released this little fellow at the exact spot where it was caught, our compost heap :-)

Dormouse

We read an article about the dormouse. You can hear about them here.

The habitat they need is exactly like the back of our garden.

For a moment we thought of making some nest boxes ourselves.

But nahhhhhh......instead we bought two nest boxes on the internet :-)

They arrived so now we have a little project hanging these in our garden.

Making sure the hole of the nest box is facing the trunk or pole.

During our sunday brunch I saw a shrew.
He was completely focused at his foraging.
My lucky day..... being able to take some pics.
